  18.  KNOW IT ALL uses word and clue sets to 
  19.  create puzzles that help you learn a
  20.  given topic.  Find the word that fits the
  21.  space using the clue given.  The clues
  22.  appear at the bottom of the screen as you
  23.  highlight different spaces on the puzzle.

  28.  The word that is highlighted is the one
  29.  ready to accept input, and the box that
  30.  has the colored highlight is the box
  31.  where your next input letter will go.
  32.  Clicking the mouse while the pointer is
  33.  on the puzzle grid or pressing the
  34.  cursor arrow keys causes a new word space
  35.  to be highlighted.

  37.  The clue for the highlighted word space
  38.  is displayed on the line at the bottom of
  39.  the screen.  To find the clue for any word
  40.  space on the puzzle grid, just highlight
  41.  the word space, and the clue will appear.

  45.  You can play this game with either the
  46.  keyboard or the mouse or a combination 
  47.  of the two.

  49. Keyboard:
  50.  The first letter or number of all
  51.  options is underlined.  To select the
  52.  option from the keyboard, hold down the
  53.  ALT key while pressing that letter or
  54.  number.

  56.  Note:  Any letter you type without
  57.  holding down the ALT key is considered
  58.  input and will be inserted in the
  59.  highlighted box on the puzzle grid.

  61.  Use the cursor arrow keys to move the
  62.  cursor pointer around the puzzle 
  63.  grid or to select or scroll text in 
  64.  pop-up windows.

  66.  The ESC key returns you to the currently
  67.  active mode from any window or action.

  69. Mouse:
  70.  Select the option you want from the
  71.  screen by moving the mouse pointer 
  72.  until it touches the option.  Then
  73.  click (press and release) the left 
  74.  mouse button.

  76.  Text in pop-up windows, like these 
  77.  directions, may be scrolled up or down by
  78.  clicking on the arrows that exist on the
  79.  right edge of the window.

  82.  outside of the window area and click.

  87.  When you start the program or select the
  88.  Game/New option, the "New Game Settings" 
  89.  window appears.  This window lets you set
  90.  the variables for and start the next game.
  91.  Options are:

  93.  Difficulty:
  94.    Select the level of difficulty desired.
  95.    Easy - Easy puzzles with maximum help.
  96.    Usual - Average puzzles with limited help.
  97.    Difficult - Large, difficult puzzles with
  98.    no help.
  99.  Topic:
  100.    The current topic displays below this option.
  101.    Selecting this option displays a list of
  102.    topics to pick from.
  103.  Players:
  104.    The name(s) of the current player(s) display
  105.    below this option: Selecting this option lets
  106.    you pick a one-player or two-player game.
  107.    Selecting the player name lets you select a
  108.    new name from the list of existing names
  109.    or add a new name.
  110.  Start already:
  111.    Selecting this option starts the new game
  112.    using the settings from above.

  116.  Across the top of the screen are three
  117.  MENU options that let you select the
  118.  game you want, get various types of
  119.  assistance, and customize the game.

  121. Game:
  122.  Displays a pop-up window with the
  123.  following options:

  125.  Load - Load a puzzle that was
  126.    previously saved in progress.
  127.  Save - Save the current state of the
  128.    existing puzzle by name.  
  129.  New  - Generate a new puzzle using one
  130.      of the topics that are available
  131.      for this program.  (See  "New Game
  132.      Settings Window")
  133.  Clear - Restart the current puzzle by
  134.    clearing all entries on the grid.
  135.  Information - Display general information
  136.    about this game.
  137.  Exit - End game and return to DOS.

  140.  Displays a pop-up window with the
  141.  following options:
  142.  
  143.  Directions - Displays this set of
  144.    instructions.  
  145.  Hint - Display an additional clue
  146.    for the highlighted word.  
  147.  Letter - Get the correct letter answer
  148.    for the highlighted position.
  149.  Word - Get the correct word answer for
  150.    the highlighted position.
  151.  All Words - Display all correct
  152.    answers for the full puzzle. 
  153.  READ THIS - Displays more information
  154.    about the game and how you can
  155.    become a registered know it all.

  157. Options:
  158.  Lets you customize the game to your
  159.  personal preferences.  The game
  160.  remembers the features you pick and
  161.  restarts the game with those features
  162.  until you change them again.  The
  163.  options are:
  164.  
  165.      Time - Choose whether or not to
  166.       time each game.
  167.      Music - Choose whether or not 
  168.       to enable the background MIDI
  169.       score.
  170.      Sounds - Choose whether or not to
  171.       enable sound effects.

  176.  On the left side of the screen is a blue
  177.  rectangle with several buttons:
  178.  
  179.  A B C . . . Y Z blank - Click on these 
  180.    letters to enter them in the puzzle.
  181.    Clicking on the blank box erases an
  182.    existing highlighted letter.
  183.  Skip - Causes the colored highlight on
  184.    the puzzle grid to move to the next
  185.    box in the word.  
  186.  Erase - Erases the contents of the
  187.    currently highlighted word.  
  188.  Undo - Lets you "take back" the last
  189.    text entry or change.  You can use this
  190.    to undo all entries made during the
  191.    current turn.  You can also activate
  192.    this option by pressing the BACKSPACE
  193.    (or RUBOUT) key.
